Gowdy Dings Schumer For Requesting Intel Chairman

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) responded to Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who demanded that House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) be removed from his post.
Schumer criticized Nunes for going to the White House compound to pore over and brief the administration on classified developments in allegations that the Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign.
"I just love it when Senator Schumer gives Republicans advice on what we ought to do," Gowdy said. "Devin is doing exactly what the chairman is [supposed] to do."
Schumer made his request because Nunes failed to notify the rest of his committee that he would be making the trip to his "source" on the White House grounds, and that he may have had new information on the case.
"I wish Senator Schumer and some of the other Democrats would be interested in the authenticity and reliability of the underlying data [rather than] the means by which it was acquired," Gowdy said.
He remarked the he wouldn't care whether Nunes had to privately go to "the White House or Waffle House" to continue his investigation securely.
Gowdy reiterated that the source or location of the information does not matter, compared to the weight of the information Nunes was studying.
He said Congress is at a "strange place" if the intelligence committee chairman can be criticized for updating the president on classified matters.
"We're not going to take advice from Chuck Schumer on who our chairman should be," he said.
