Newly released government data
reveals June was the deadliest month in Mexico in at least 20 years.
The report says more than 2,200 people were killed in the country last month.
From January to June, more than 12,000 homicides were recorded, nearly 31% more from the same period last year.
The deaths are spread across a number of states, while in the past, murders were largely blamed on just a few states where drug cartels were at war.
